It’s always amazing to see individuals who are completely and utterly committed to the ethos of the craftsman, who focus so acutely on their trade that their external eccentricities become insignificant in the face of their passion and product.
I think these next two videos are these types of individuals, though each video captures a completely different approach to being a craftsman.
The first are The Mast Brothers, a family business in Brooklyn that’s committed to the craft of chocolate, one of the few craft chocolatiers in the United States:
How can you not love two guys with such love for their trade and such epic facial hair?
The second is Shinya Kimura, a custom motorcycle builder who builds the bikes by hand in his own shop. I love this quote:
I was brought up surrounded by the smell of oil and steel
I wish I had the space to build a workshop. This is really just an excuse- if I were committed, I could make the space anywhere. I just need the passion and drive.
