Joker and Lex
This might be the most perfect Calvin and Hobbes tribute I’ve seen yet. Here is a description from IGN’s Superman/Batman #75 review:
As noted before, the back-up material is the real reason to plop down five of your hard earned dollars for this issue…the book’s back half is filled with two-page gems from an eclectic line-up of talent.
…but that’s all a mere warm-up to the book’s glorious main event, Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo’s loving tribute to Calvin and Hobbes starring Lex Luthor and the Joker. I can’t begin to describe the joy this two-page gem brought me. Not only does Bermejo go completely outside his usual creative box by wonderfully paying homage to the style of Bill Watterson, but Azzarello accomplishes the equally impressive feat of mirroring Watterson’s trademark sense of humor while also staying true to the two iconic villains’ personalities and histories. I loved this strip. Absolutely loved it. For Calvin and Hobbes fans, it’s alone reason to lay down the five bucks.
I completely agree with the above sentiment- this comic really couldn’t have been more perfectly executed.
